Denvers Food Scene

When people think gourmet they might think of New York, LA, or San Francisco. Worldwide, they might go to Paris,  or London. Some of the world's top restaurants are in Spain, Denmark and Australia. Not many people would think of a city a mile high, far away from any agricultural superpower (California). Every time I have eaten at a Denver restaurant I have been amazed. Think California food: locavore cuisine, fresh to the table. Instead of it being tomatoes off the vine( which there still are plenty of) there is lots of meat. "The meat is offal!" I tell everyone to see what they say. Offal is the thing in Denver. Offal is the leftover meat the peasants get and you could by lots of it. Rocky mountain oysters which are the man parts of a cow ( the best ones are from the calf's) are the best part of Colorado cuisine. Pork belly is everywhere but it has a fresh local flavor.

There is also a diversity of cuisine. Some of the three most famous restaurants in the area are very different.

Root Down is a contemporary vegan/vegetarian restaurant set up in what looks like a refurbished garage. You can make the choice of sharing appetizers, which can always accommodate your dietary needs. It tastes delightful. You can eat an entree such as tofu or salmon. You wont go home feeling like you have gained 20 lbs.Root Down website

Another restaurant that Denver is famous for is Rioja. This is Spanish fusion food so it has very strong flavors. When I say strong I don't mean like hot sauce or Indian food. I mean lavender bread and artichoke puree ravioli. If this sounds good to you here's the address: Rioja

On the cheaper side there are plenty of restaurants such as crepes and crepes , a personal favorite: crepesncrepes. There is also voodoo doughnuts voodoodoughnut  which is down the street from Twist and Shout records. There are plenty of other restaurants that I will keep you updated on in the future.
