Pho Plus

Pho Plus is located on center street in Provo.

Pho Plus has all the vietnamese specials from vietnamese sandwiches (Banh Mi) Boba and Pho.
I came here for the Pho. Pho  for those who don't know is pronounced "fuh". It is a noodley brothy soup that has bits of meat in it. I ordered the number 11 which had almost every meat in it. Don't order a large unless you haven't eaten for a week because you wont even finish half. Even I am saying that!

If you have had REAL  ramen it is very simialar.  The one difference I notice is how it is served. Real Ramen is  more fishy with the use of bonito flakes. Pho is meat and bones.

My taro boba tea was good. It was a little on the slushy side if you like that. I found it amazing that they had just two people I could see working there and fast service for so many tables.

Three Restaurant San Mateo

http://www.threesanmateo.com/eat
This is a great restaurant because I love condiments especially variants of aiolis which are heavily used at this updated version of Astaria. At 3 you order a small or large size, either for yourself or for the group. It also depends on what you are ordering. The brie phylo poppers( served with fig preserves and creme fraiche) are served with 1 for $4  2 for $7 and 3 for $10.  I love their mushroom stogies. They are different from insalatas, because they have mushrooms gruyere black sesame and chipotle aioli.  The yam fritters are a family favorite with plum chipotle aioli.  Bacon bits are good too, but the crown jewel of the restaurants appetizers is (drumroll please).... THE HUMBERTOS INFERNO!!!  Gruyere flambeed tableside. This means that they set it on fire next your table. Believe me, this is a casual place. Little kids come here who play on their video games when the flambeeing is happening. Parties and corporate events, baby showers are perfect here. It says it on the wall. It is a huge place because its part of the Ben Franklin hotel/ Draper University.
Entrees are all great. Salads are good but the burger for some reason I love. It doesnt have special toppings, its just cooked well. Everyone seems to like the chicken though.

Fast
Casual
Well priced for what you get

Block 34

block34.com
Located in San Mateo, this restaurant is going to be the next big spot in San Mateo for trendy appetizers and entrees. The squash soup has burnt butter was so sweet it should have been alongside pumpkin pie on the dessert menu. The crab cakes were so lemony they should be called lemonade crab cakes. My ahi burger was amazing. I am glad they use sushi grade tuna. It was extremely tender and cooked better than most burgers I have ordered in the past at other restaurants.

The desserts, however were mediocre but we finished them off. Service was slow, and took two hours but it was new years day.

Insalatas

Located in the North Bay, Insalatas is a fusion of various mediterranean cuisines. The restaurants has flavors coming from North Africa, all the way to Italy. You can get cous cous with vegetables or orrichiette pasta with light cheese. Over all it is a very light meal. You can eat a lot without feeling stuffed.

By the way this is one of  my favorite restaurants  in the bay area. It is worth a try.

Note: Try their cigar pastrys and their desserts.

Green Panda Cafe

Green Panda is one of a kind for Utah. I have never seen anywhere else in the provo area that you can get dim sum and Boba tea. It truly is a cafe, nothing worth getting dressed up for. It is located across from the Riverwoods shopping mall. When you approach it you might think its sketchy because of its strip mall location and the appearance that no one is inside.

The truth is, that is how every restaurant that isn't american and costs under 15 bucks for an entree in the bay area is and the bay area has the best Mexican, Chinese and Indian food I have ever had. Every single one of them was like that. You walk in, and you get mediocre service despite the fact that its empty, but wonderful food. There are so many places to try if you just give it a chance and get rid of your stigma.

To get back to Green Panda, Green Panda has excellent bubble tea. I got Lychee which is one of my favorite flavors. You can either get it with milk or without. I got it with milk because to be honest, its the only way. It was very rich and everyone else loved theirs too. Next time I will try taro.

I also had dim sum. I had pork buns. If you have never had them it is like a pulled pork Twinkie. Soft and cakey on the outside and sweet and porky on the inside.

I highly recommend it here. The price is great it is a little slow though so leave time if you have plans afterwards.

Black Sheep Cafe

Located in Provo, this cool little place in my opinion is a combination of Southwestern and Native American cuisines. It is very "squashy, rooty, and subtley spiced". Think Mexican on a Paleo diet.
I ordered the hog jowl tacos pictured below.

It came with beans and minty rice. The hog jowl was the tenderest pork I have ever had. I don't get why more people eat it. Maybe because jowl sounds wierd. The sweet potatoe fries were thick and spiced more southwestern than you would have at a burger place. The best part of the experience is the hot chocolate. They set it on fire. It isnt too sweet. It is more on the bitter dark chocalate side with a hint of spice  because of the setting it is being served in.

True Food Kitchen

One of my favorite restaurants is in Denver. It is a health food restaurant, that has unique fresh squeezed juices, salads and entrees. I like it because it isn't vegetarian. It is just healthy. You can still get a turkey burger or some other things. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a place to go to get steak and potatoes like Buckhorn Exchange. It is, however, a great place to get brussel sprouts and an inside out quinoa burger.

I have also had  a bunch of other things like quinoa Johnny cakes and squash casserole that were all good. The restaurant is also owned by Andrew Weil who is like Doctor Oz but not sold out. He knows his stuff.
